Dating Apps Heat Up as Valentine’s Day Approaches

valentinesNo date for Saturday? This Saturday, as in Valentine’s Day? If not, there’s still time to hit the dating apps and feverishly pair off. And that’s what hordes of singles ended up doing last year.

On Valentine’s Day in 2014, signups for dating app Coffee Meets Bagel jumped 45% compared with the same timeframe a week prior, according to co-founder Dawoon Kang. Coffee Meets Bagel is a dating app that gives you just one match a day, to encourage you to focus on date quality over date quantity.

Tastebuds, a dating site that pairs members it deems musically compatible, also confirmed a Valentine’s Day traffic spike.

Kang says the month of February is otherwise a quiet one for online dating, however. “We see such a huge spike in January, with people’s renewed interest around New Year’s Day of ‘I am going to find a boyfriend/girlfriend this new year!’ Then things just calm down in February.”

With Valentine’s Day nearly here, we tested the waters in some dating apps such as Coffee Meets Bagel, HowAboutWe, Hinge, Tastebuds and Grouper. Be sure to check out the video above to see how the sites compare.
