HP ready to pull the trigger on faster 3D printer

Sprout by HP and HP Multi Jet Fusion 3D Printer Launch eventHP is pushing into 3D printers in a bid to inject some sizzle into its brand.

The Silicon Valley pioneer, which most consumers associate with desktop inject printers, promises its Multi Jet Fusion technology will be superior to rivals when it launches in 2016.

Specifically, HP said its printer be 10 times faster than current models, meaning it will take hours to print what would currently takes days, executives said at an event on Wednesday.

Barclays analysts Ben Reitzes said he doesn’t expect the 3D printer to change HP’s financial profile, but he sees it undermining the “incumbents.” Those include Stratasys, the owner of Brooklyn-based MakerBot, the best-known consumer 3D printer brand.  More
